Atomos invented the ProRes monitor-recorder, and the Ninja and Shogun lines are market leaders in that field.
In response to customer feedback, the first monitor-only device, Shinobi, was launched in 2019 and has been very successful, selling over 100.000 units worldwide.
One of the most common requests from Shinobi users has been camera control, which requires a USB-C port for the widest-possible compatibility with modern mirrorless/DSLR cameras.
At launch, Shinobi II will be able to control most Canon, Panasonic, and Sony mirrorless cameras via USB-C, and all Z CAM E2 models through our USB-C to Serial Cable (ATOMCAB018), purchased separately.
With future firmware updates Atomos plans to support cameras from Fujifilm, Nikon, OM System and Sigma.
The camera control interface has been designed by Atomos, with a focus on common settings that need to be adjusted on a shot-by-shot basis.
The exposure triangle is an essential element of all photography.
Shinobi II has sliders for adjusting lens aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
With immediate and responsive access to these settings, getting perfect exposure on every shot is a breeze, especcially when used in combination with the powerful monitoring tools.
These include histogram, waveform, false color, zebra, focus peaking and zoom (same as Shinobi).
The camera's White Balance can also be adjusted via a slider.
If you need to control recording remotely, for example if your camera is mounted on a gimbal, that is also possible via the Shinobi II's camera control bar.
Recording status is shown by a red edge display, irrespective of whether the recording is triggered by the camera or from the Shinobi II.
Adding a USB-C port gave us the opportunity to restyle the form factor.
The slimmer body meant that we could add more hardare functionality without significantly affecting the qeight of the device.
Shinobi II weighs just 210gms, compared with its Shinobi's 196gms.
The touchscreen has also been upgraded, at 1500nits peak brightness it is 50% brighter than its predecessor.
The USB-C PD port can also be used to power or charge the camera from the NPF battery.
