Macro lenses on the market tend to have a long focal length (from 60mm to 120mm) and the subject occupies most of the frame, isolated from the surrounding environment.
Laowa 24mm, on the other hand, allows you to focus really close (2cm @ 2:1), while showing lots of details and textures. At the same time, you can enjoy a wide angle view (84.1°) so more details of the environment can be included in the shot.
This allows you to create more information-rich images with perspectives that no other lens can achieve.
The ability to focus so close opens up a wide range of shooting possibilities.
With the Laowa Probe, you can reach a maximum magnification of 2:1, allowing you to portray very small insects and reveal details that are not visible to the naked eye.
It is especially useful for videographers because both the smallest details and the environment can be captured in a single frame.
This wide angle design also means greater depth of field at short distances (compared to tele macro lenses).
This is a great advantage for both studio (table top) and nature shots.
The special design of the Laowa 24mm, with a barrel length of 40cm, allows you to bring the lens very close to the subject while remaining distant. Imagine how convenient it is to shoot a frog in the pond by hiding behind a bush, instead of having to show yourself to get close to the subject or having it partially covered by the bush where you are hiding.
In addition, the small diameter allows you to enter small spaces that would otherwise be inaccessible.
Another example is shooting dangerous snakes. The length of the barrel allows us to stay at a safe distance, and the size of the lens does not alarm the subject.
