Nikon's NIKKOR Z 800mm f / 6.3 VR S is a super telephoto prime lens featuring the unique combination of one of the longest focal lengths available in a surprisingly portable package. This distinct design is made possible by the inclusion of a Phase Fresnel element, which reduces overall weight by 50% and length by 16% compared to the previous F 800mm f / 5.6 mount lens.
Compact and lightweight design:
A sophisticated combination of technologies makes this super telephoto lens a relatively elegant lens, opening up new possibilities for a focal length that was previously relegated to the use of the tripod / monopod.
-The Phase Fresnel element not only compensates for chromatic aberrations and color fringes, but also replaces several conventional glass elements to promote a more compact and lighter optical layout.
Modest f / 6.3 maximum aperture strikes a balance between a practically bright design and lightweight construction
Compared to the previous 800mm f / 5.6 F-mount lens, which weighs over 10 lbs, this new 800mm f / 6.3 Z-mount lens weighs half at 5.25 lbs. Additionally, the mirrorless-specific design also contributes to an overall reduction in lens length, measuring just over 15 inches in length, compared to the previous lens measuring 18 inches in length.
S Line Optic:
Helping to virtually eliminate chromatic aberrations, color fringes and comic aberrations, this lens features three ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements, along with an SR (short wavelength refractive) element.
SR element features a specialized high dispersion design that refracts wavelengths shorter than blue, this helps to achieve truly accurate color rendering and also helps to make the lens design more compact.
-Nano Crystal Coat has been applied for all-round anti-glare protection at all angles, helping to suppress ghosting, reflections and glare for higher contrast and more accurate color response when working in strong lighting conditions and backlight.
Professional handling and construction:
Physical design focuses the center of gravity around the tripod mount for a smoother and more responsive overview, especially when working on a tripod or monopod. The tripod mount also rotates for easier switching between vertical and horizontal shooting orientation.
-Compatible with the optional TC-1.4x and TC-2x Z teleconverter to further extend the reach of this lens.
-The intuitive "no-look" control layout puts all frequently used buttons and knobs in easy-to-reach positions to avoid the need to move your eye away from the viewfinder.
-Advanced weather sealing includes rubber seals to prevent dust and moisture from entering, the lens body is made of strong and lightweight magnesium alloy, and the exposed elements have a fluorine coating that repels dirt and oils and is easier to clean.
-Store a focus position using the Memory Set button so you can instantly return to this position by turning the Fn ring - perfect for capturing fleeting movements.
-You can set two customizable L-Fn buttons to configure subject tracking, AF lock, image playback or other modes. The L-Fn2 button is also accessible from four different positions on the barrel for easy access.
-Focus limiter switch can limit the focus range from 32.8 'to infinity or from the full focus range from 16.4' to infinity.
-The programmable control dial can also be used to control aperture, ISO or exposure compensation.
-Kensington lock holder to secure the lens in place during remote shooting sessions.
