VILTROX has finally released more details on its line of full-frame anamorphic lenses, the EPIC series.
These are three cinematic primaries (35mm/50mm/75mm) with a constant aperture of T2.0, a compression factor of 1.33x, and a PL mount.
The 1.33x compression factor, which roughly translates into final images having an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 when using a 16:9 sensor, is claimed to be consistent throughout the focus range.
Speaking of focus, according to VILTROX lenses should have minimal focus breathing.
The 35mm and 50mm can focus as close as 78.7cm, while the minimum focusing distance of the 75mm is 99cm.
The fast T2.0 aperture features an 8-blade design, which should ensure smooth bokeh.
In addition, the front glass element features nano-coating technology and a waterproof and anti-fouling coating.
The physical design of the series seems to be really well thought out, as all lenses share the same weight, dimensions (102x133mm), front outer diameter (95mm), and center of gravity.
This makes it easy to switch between focal lengths while shooting, especially when balancing the camera package on a gimbal.
In addition, the size, diameter and position of the M.08 focus and aperture gears are unified across the series. The aperture ring has a range of 63°, while the long focus range (290°) should allow for smooth focusing.
