The 24.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor, now with back-illuminated structure, teams up with the latest-generation BIONZ X image processing engine and Front-end LSI chip, achieving twice the data readout speed and 1.8 times faster data processing performance.

Back-illuminated full-frame sensor
The 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor with back-illuminated structure offers improved light collection efficiency, expands circuitry space, and, thanks to a copper wiring layer that increases data transfer speed, increases output speed by reducing noise to reveal the finest details.

High-resolution images with low noise

The standard ISO range has been expanded to 100-51,200 (and to ISO 50-204,800 for stills), while detail reproduction and area-specific noise suppression technologies prevent image loss and eliminate noise.

14-bit raw output for rich gradation
For more delicate and natural gradations, the new BIONZ X image processor and front-end LSI chip process 16-bit signals.
The processor offers 14-bit RAW data output even in silent or continuous shooting mode.

High-resolution 4K video
Full pixel readout without pixel binning in 35mm full-frame format compresses the data required for 4K video by 2.4 times (QFHD: 3840 x 2160), minimizing moiré and jaggies.
You can select single-frame or Super 35mm format.
4K recording uses the XAVC S format at bitrates up to 100 Mbps.
