Constant anamorphic compression ratio
Both the anamorphic and spherical groups are fixed, a variable front spherical glass is added to achieve focus.
A similar optical design is used in the Vantage Hawks, Cooke Anamorphic, and Atlas Orion.
With a 2x compression ratio, you get 2.66:1 on a 4:3 sensor and 2.4:1 on a 6:5 sensor after decompression.
This allows for a crop ratio of 2.39:1, offering a cinematic, ultra-widescreen look, much sought after by the film industry.
The compression ratio remains constant at any focusing distance to avoid anamorphic distortion.
Ultra-bright aperture
Thanks to the T2's bright aperture, Proteus allows filmmakers to shoot in low-light conditions.
It also creates a shallow depth of field with a waterfall-like transition into out-of-focus.
