The Double Fog 3 Filter from Tiffen is a variation of Tiffen's standard Fog Filter. However, a Double Fog is characterized by less highlight flare nor does it soften the image as much. If you've ever stood in a strong fog, you've noticed that nearby objects still retain their sharpness. The same effect is created with the Double Fog. Contrast is lowered and although the photo more closely represents the pure, realistic effect of a true fog, the romantic, warm painted feeling of a standard Tiffen Fog filter will not be exhibited.

The #3 Double Fog filter puts you in a natural fog. Overall contrast continues to be lowered. Highlights will flare a bit but not too aggressively. A misty feeling is increased but not to the degree where you feel you need to wipe the droplets off your glasses.

Tiffen's Color Core glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process
